  In a significant step toward supporting economic growth and ensuring sufficient liquidity in the financial system, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a 50 basis points (bps) cut in the policy repo rate , bringing it down to 5.5% . Simultaneously, it has unveiled a 100 bps reduction in the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) , to be implemented in four tranches throughout the second half of 2025. The announcement was made by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra during the post-MPC press briefing on Friday, marking a shift in the central bank's monetary stance from ‘Accommodative’ to ‘Neutral’ .
